Abstract

This paper presents concepts, features, and important considerations in the development of an iconic language for military command-and-control com-munications. It describes communities of interest in the Department of Defense and how iconic language as used in the various communities can differ. Various sections are focused on the components of the iconic language as well as its status, issues and challenges. Finally, the paper concludes with future directions and research goals.
