Abstract
The use of metaphor as been exponentially exploding, through the development of invisible data perceptualization. Scientific visualization is creating an entirely new set of metaphoric systems languages, and moves in a much broader spectrum with the inclusion of collaborating artists. The author will speak about her own development of metaphoric systems through a thirty year journey in visualizing music. She will then comment on the the Art, Research, Technology & Science Laboratory, known as the ARTS Lab, the interdisciplinary center at UNM, created by special funding from the Governor Richardson's Media Industries Strategy Project (MISP) in 2005. The author is artist in residence and research associate there and is currently engaged in deep collaboration with the Visualization Lab and the Center For High Performance Computing in the project called Gridjam, a real-time, geographically distributed, networked multimedia event to take place over the international LambdaRail network.
