For students seeking general exposure to the research SSL members conduct, the CS691 Scalable Systems Seminar reading group is a good introduction to general research issues in the area

Student Research Funding Opportunities

Research funding is generally available for highly-motivated, well-prepared students with whom lab faculty have worked with in classes, or who are highly recommended by lab collaborators. The lab does not, generally, fund students with whom lab members have not worked; new students interested in conducting funded research in the lab are strongly encouraged to take CS graduate classes from lab faculty, participate in the lab reading group, and attend lab research meetings
