I am a recent master's graduate in CS. Here you will find a collection of my current class work and some
other odds and ends. My current intrests in research are visualization,
network analysis/simulation, AI/ALife/CAS, and GPU
based computation.

Trip to Wisconsin was fun. Christmas was good, New Year's was good.
We had to cancel our snowboarding trip to Wolf Creek on Saturday because they
only had a 30 inch base and hadn't gotten any snow in over a week. We weren't
too interested in a 8 hour round trip car ride to ride on hard-packed old
snow. There is hope though! This morning as I was walking into my building it
was snowing, and there was snow on the Sandias!!! Maybe we'll be able to get
some snowshowing in soon.
Big news lately has been our purchases... We bought a new bed (yay!) last
weekend, and a sofa this weekend. Our house will finally start looking like a
civilized home soon!
The JOGL graph viz work is progressing fairly nicely I think. I sent some
images off to one of my managers last week but haven't heard a comment back
yet. Hopefully they are liking my work.

Graduation was good. Beer was good. Family was good.
Now that I have the Master's degree behind me I am seriously considering
re-applying for a PhD. I am only 18 hours, a dissertation, and the comps
away from a PhD at this point. We'll see what happens I guess...
I finished the port of our project to the JOGL JSR-231 beta today. Only one
minor bug left but I believe that it is a bug in the JOGL implementation. Now
it's time to get back to working on the graph viz part.
I really need to get around to fixing my other website. It's collected dust
far too long now in my opinion.

I got a letter several weeks ago telling me that my thesis was fully accepted,
so I am now good to graduate! This weekend is the commencement ceremony and my
folks are coming into town to watch me walk.
On other fronts, I am currently working on a large graph visualization API in
java using JOGL. Java has frustrated me a bit because it is even bigger
(memory wise) and slower (computational speed wise) than I had previously
thought. Up to this point I had mostly written "toy" applications that made
very little demand on the CPU or memory and found java pleasant because it
made cute interfaces and interactivity fairly simply.
We also had our first snow of the season two days ago! How exciting! Time to
break out all the winter sports equipment! Hopefully I will get some
pre-season back-country riding in with Clint before we leave for Wisconsin.

I successfully defended my thesis on Graphics Processing Unit Computation of
Neural Netoworks last Tuesday. The paper turned out pretty well and the
presentation went very smooth. I have uploaded a copy of my thesis to my
publications list. This week I hope to get
5 copies printed and submitted to OGS.
Ed and Tom both asked me about publishing technical papers based on my
research and I think this would be a good idea. Hopefully in the next few
weeks I will have a draft to them and will be well on my way to a publication
in a journal.
Last week I started a new job at Respec as
a contractor for Sandia National
Laboratories. I will be working on visualization of very large graphs
involved in the simulation of very large critical infrastructures.

Well, I got my draft back from Ed and it looks pretty good now. Minor changes
for the most part. He did point out that I need to add a bit more
introduction about what a neural network is, so I will be trying to get this
done today. Still have not cleaned up the bibliography. As usual life struck and I got all caught up in trying to
get some projects wrapped up to a nice level of completion. I need to get at
least these revisions wrapped up so that I can get a copy of my paper to Tom
and George for their first review passes.

Last week I passed another draft of my thesis to my advisor. I've put all the
new graphs in, added all my source code in appendices, and tightened the paper
up. I still need to clean up the bibliography, but I expect to have that
mostly done tomorrow.

I have completed my first draft of my thesis. Due to some scheduling issues I
couldn't defend this summer, so my work has slowed down a little bit. I
expect to have a second draft to my advisor within the week.

The thesis work continues. Got my results back for the ATI card. I'll post
some graphs later.
