3 computer science students awarded with inaugural VanDyke Software Scholarships

Three undergraduates in the Department of Computer Science were awarded the first batch of VanDyke Software Inc. Scholarships.
The recipients were Alan Shen, Preston Hamilton and Brandon Stringham.
VanDyke scholarships are awarded to undergraduate computer science students who excel in lower-level computer science courses.
Recipients must:
- Be an undergraduate student in the Department of Computer Science
- Have a minimum 3.0 GPA
- Have successfully completed CS 351
Preference is given to students with an interest in software engineering.
The scholarship endowment was started by Jeff Van Dyke, of Albuquerque, founder and CEO of VanDyke Software Inc. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the UNM Department of Computer Science in 1991 and 1993, respectively.
He is the founder of VanDyke Software and was the initial developer of the company’s first product, the CRT terminal emulator. He works closely with his team to develop excellent software and provide exceptional customer support. Previously, Van Dyke was a research scientist and adjunct instructor for the computer science department at UNM.
